                                  Rise of the Guardians

                                   Book III  Awakening

                               Chapter X: A Common Enemy

The year is now 3373; Cynder remains in Drakiyos's captivity, Devora has returned to Brygeon and the war seemed to be on a normal balance. Vulgar Tyderius had reviewed the footage recorded on Haljerron's combat camera and was analyzing it. Brygeon and Devora, the morning after Devora's return, went to the memorial service held in Drekhol's honor.
As the sun was almost at the center of the sky, Flame was giving his final speech. All of Drekhol's friends and family were gathered in sadness of their loss. Most of them had tears in their eyes.
"Before we close the service, Brygeon would like to say a few words in his brother's honor." Flame said as Brygeon stood up.
The gold dragon walked up to the speaking stand as Flame stepped aside.
"I'm sorry for your loss." Flame said as he placed his hand on Brygeon's right shoulder.
Brygeon nodded in acknowledgment of the consolation as he turned to speak to the people.
"My brother was known as many things. A loving father, a caring husband, even a  war hero. But among all of those titles he was my only brother. He stuck by my side through every obstacle we faced. But the last battle he was faced with was against an enemy no dragon could fore see. Even in death we must not forget all that Drekhol has done for us. He is in a better place and we will greatly miss him..." then a mutter to himself, "Armias knows I will."
Brygeon stepped down with a heavy heart as Flame walked back to the speaking stand.
"The Kreyos family thanks you for your attendance." Flame thanked.
Everyone began to get up from their floor seats and pay their respects to the recently deceased.
Flame and Ember approached Devora. She hugged her father and then her mother.
Devora stated, "Its good to see you again. I was stupid for abandoning my family."
Flame replied in denial of her finishing sentence, "No it wasn't stupid of you. You were distraught over the loss of Brygeon. We all were."
"Believe me Devora, we all know what it feels like to lose the one you love." Ember added.
"Well at least Brygeon wasn't truly dead to begin with." Devroa said as she stepped up next to Brygeon.
Flame looked at Brygeon and said, "You know she has been through a lot in the past but you have managed to help my daughter through it all. I can say you probably hold the best interests for her."
"I don't know if anyone told you or not but...my death resulted from saving Devora's life. I will protect her at any cost. Even Drekhol understood that. So yes I do hold her interests ahead of my own." Brygeon spoke.
"I will remember that when...er...if you two marry." Flame responded as both Brygeon and Devora's eyes lit up in surprise, "An yes, you do have my blessing. Future purposes should you ask."
They did not know what to say at first. Brygeon had planned to marry Devora 300 years ago before his untimely disappearance but now it seemed like he had to start all over again.
"Actually I going to ask you about that. After the battle with Tyrant I was going to ask for your blessing in me marrying Devora." Brygeon stated.
"I see. Well normally I would say no to that question if you  were any other dragon...but..." Flame spoke.
Devroa stepped in and said, "Dad, Brygeon and I have been together since we were kids. After all that time we spent together I have never fallen for any other dragon. My heart belongs to him."
"If that is the case then it would be heartless if I said no. Oh and before I forget, Hydro wishes to see you after the service, Brygeon. Its regarding Drekhol's murder." Flame added.
Meanwhile, at the ancient Dragon Temple, Spyro had convinced his dark form to perform a task. The temple still remained fully intact after several thousand years. No one was allowed inside the temple except the Elemental Dragon Guardians and the Guardian Lord. There was a wall inside the temple Spyro needed to approach. He was going to transfer his powers along with Cynder's to the Prophecy Wall so Drakiyos cannot absorb them in his mission to become the next Prince of Darkness.
"This place is a dump. Why did you drag me here?"  Corrupt Spyro spoke.
The real Spyro replied as they passed by a mirrored wall , "This 'dump' used to be my home, and I need you to find a certain wall."
"You know there are better things I could be doing right now." Corrupted Spyro growled.
Spyro replied, "Like what, killing more people I've known all my life? Just shut that ugly face of yours up and keep walking. You and I both know that Vulgar and Aydon will not tolerate us killing Haljerron."
"He was a weak mortal. Haljerron deserved a gruesome death as well as that dragon who stood in my way." Corrupted Spyro stated.
"There was no need to kill Drekhol." Spyro stated, "He was a good dragon who just got caught at the wrong time."
"His bad timing was the cause of his death." Corrupt Spyro replied.
They came to the wall as both Spyro and his Corrupted form gazed at it.
"Put me back in control so I can perform what needs to be done." Spyro requested.
     "Fine." the Corrupted spoke.
In a stream of blackened light Spyro had gained full control of his body. He took a green crystal from the pocket in his wing; the crystal contained all of his powers and Cynder's as well. Knowing that Drakiyos would use them to gain the throne of Hell.
Spyro chanted the language of the Ancient dragon, "Syreth niar'kort dun. Akal'Oun zot myr Armias. Many enemies have fallen to the claws of my predecessors but never has the Purple Dragon face a foe as deadly as Drakiyos. This battle this one of suicidal proportions that I fear may result in my death  To protect my friends, family and all of Avalar I ask that you grant me the power to give the next legendary dragons the powers of the Guardians of Light. My time here is nearing its end and I cannot allow this evil to take power from those who rightfully deserve it."
Just then small streams if blue light came in and swarmed the crystal as well as Spyro. After a few minutes later the beams of light returned to the wall and the crystal vaporized leaving Spyro is without his powers. He turned away and walked to the exit. Spyro would return control to Corrupted after he speaks with Cynder one last time.
Later that day at the Avalarian Capitol city, Brygeon and Devora entered the High Council building to meet up with Lord Hydro. They walked in and saw Hydro at the end of the large table. Vulgar and Aydon to his right, and Flame and Ember on his left.
"I don't want to sound rude but what the hell is he doing here." Brygeon said as he pointed his left wing talon at Vulgar.
Vulgar replied in a hateful tone, "You know I do have better things to tend to at the moment but this is of great importance."
"Brygeon please, Lord Tyderius has come here to fully explain who it was that killed Drekhol." Hydro spoke.
Brygeon kept his remaining remarks held in as he walked to the table and sat down.
"So far I have personally reviewed my brother's combat camera footage and it proves that Spyro killed both Haljerron and General Kreyos." Vulgar spoke while bringing up the video on the table screen.
"I just can't see how my father has just turned against his own people for no reason." Hydro stated.
Flame halted, "One moment, freeze the image." He got a closer look at his brother's face once the video was paused, "That's not Spyro...I mean it is but at the same time it isn't if that makes any sense."
"What are you talking about?" Devora asked.
"Look at his eyes." Flame answered as everyone looked into the red eyes of the corrupt dragon.
"If I am not mistaken, aren't Spyro's eyes a dark purple color." Aydon asked.
"They are." Brygeon answered, "Though I've never seen them turn red before."
Vulgar had a theory come to mind. Maybe one of the Demon Warriors survived the final war.
He asked, "Flame, what exactly happened to Drakyios after he died?"
"Spyro just simply killed him and nothing else occurred afterwards," Flame replied, "Why?"
"Vulgar, you don't think the soul of Drakiyos corrupted him. I mean Jerrack, Sirradia and Dulkratus were all in Hell when we killed them, Their souls were destroyed with it but Drakiyos was in our realm when he died."  Aydon stated.
"He must have been floating around in Limbo waiting for some idiot to replenish his mortal form. Spyro stumbled along and he took over his body." Vulgar spoke.
Devora gave the truth, "Actually Spyro and Cynder were captured by Drakiyos. Barritan was the one who resurrected him. Because of that Spyro's darker side was unleashed at full strength."
Vulgar asked, "How do you know that?"
"Because I was there." Devora answered, "I tried to stop Barritan from unleashing that monster but his stupidity took over. I can say Drakiyos did everyone a favor by killing that traitor. And that's not it, he even started the war between Avalar and Maldoria."
"I should have figured." Aydon implied, "I know Avalar wouldn't be that stupid to start a war with their allies."
"I don't know if I should take that as a complement or an insult." Hydro spoke, "Either way this war is declared over on our end, now that the truth is out in the open."
"Same here. Of course I will have to notify my commanders through personal appearance since there are no MISCA communications satellites in orbit." Vulgar spoke, "It's a pain in the ass having to go to each base."
Hydro replied, "I will provide security escorts for you on your travels." then to Brygeon, "General Kreyos, I think it would seem right to make you the new Guardian Lord. Mainly due to the fact that you were my parents first son and that your grandfather was the Kreltarian Lord. I am not as powerful as you and with this title I request, as my final command, that you kill Drakiyos by any means necessary."
"Consider him dead as a hammer." Brygeon replied with a bow to his lord.
"Flame, if you would please administer the Oath of Throne." Hydro said as he used the end of his tail to remove the Guardian Lord headdress.
Flame approached Brygeon and said, "Raise your right hand and repeat after me," Brygeon lifted his right hand, "Do you swear, to protect, serve and guide the people of the Avalarian Republic. To command our soldiers, to defeat our enemies and to maintain peace with our allies?"
     Brygeon replied, "I swear."
"Do you swear to give your allegiance to the Guardian Dragons, who have all swore their lives to the people of Avalar; to honor their laws and uphold them." Flame continued
     "I swear." Brygeon replied.
"As the Fire Guardian of the Avalarian Republic on the behalf of Lord Hydro I bestow the title of Guardian Lord upon you, Brygeon Kreyos. May you proudly lead our people well." Flame replied as Hydro brought up the headdress.
Brygeon lowered his hand and tipped his head down to have the crown place on it. Hydro, being the passing lord, approached Brygeon. Flame stepped to the side as Hydro lifted the crown over Brygeon's head. Hdyro brought the crown down onto Brygeon's head. Brygeon raised his head as the new Guardian Lord and accepted it on the task of killing Drakiyos. The war was declared over on both sides. With the soul of Haljerron Tyderius, Drakiyos was able to rebuild part of Hell, mainly the arena balcony Satan was killed on. Brygeon was about to face an enemy greater than Ulfheres and Tyrant combined...
The war is now over but there I a larger threat out there now, and Brygeon's mettle will be tested .

I'm most glad to see that Flame has given his blessings to Brygeon and Devora in their intentions to marry.
